Former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati’s texts to Sam Altman when he was briefly fired from OpenAI was by far the biggest bombshell to come out of the Musk vs Altman trial so far.
For context: When Sam Altman was suddenly ousted from OpenAI in 2023 and rehired a few days later, the public story made it sound almost strategic and calculated.
These texts between Altman and Murati revealed the opposite.
They showed all the confusion and panic happening behind the scenes and how Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s CEO, was pulled in to basically mediate the whole mess.
All in all, not a good look for OpenAI or Sam, but we’ll see what else this trial reveals as it continues on.
And now it seems like "Directionally very bad" may be the new buzz phrase of the season 😂
