BREAKING: ELON MUSK OPEN AI BOMBSHELL “AGI Achieved Internally”, Q-STAR, Lawsuit to DISSOLVE OpenAI
Elon Musk Sues OpenAI, Alleging Company Abandoned Original Mission
Elon Musk, the tech magnate behind companies like Tesla and SpaceX, has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman. Musk, a co-founder of OpenAI, claims that the AI research company has deviated from its founding promise of developing artificial intelligence (AI) for the betterment of humanity.
Disputed Mission and the Microsoft Partnership
At the heart of the lawsuit is a disputed mission. Musk alleges that OpenAI has violated an agreement to freely share major AI breakthroughs with the public by forming a multibillion-dollar partnership with Microsoft. He says the company is now developing “proprietary technology to maximize profits” for Microsoft.
Musk, known for his warnings about the potential dangers of AI, co-founded OpenAI in 2015 as a non-profit. He donated $44 million, claiming he was induced by promises that it would remain non-profit. Musk left OpenAI’s board in 2018 due to disagreements over research direction. OpenAI formed a for-profit arm a year later, which received substantial investment from Microsoft.
Artificial General Intelligence and Legal Battles
Musk’s lawsuit asserts that OpenAI’s recent GPT4 AI model meets the definition of artificial general intelligence (AGI), a level where computers can function at or surpass human intelligence. Since the Microsoft deal only licensed OpenAI’s pre-AGI technology, reaching this threshold is key to Musk’s case.
The lawsuit seeks a court ruling on whether GPT4 qualifies as AGI, arguing that OpenAI’s board lacks the expertise to make this determination. It further states that OpenAI is developing an even more powerful model, Q*, which Musk claims should be made publicly available under OpenAI’s founding agreement.
Musk expresses grave concerns about the dangers of AGI if it isn’t developed responsibly. OpenAI, however, maintains that it hasn’t yet achieved AGI, pointing to the fact that even advanced language models like GPT4 still produce errors and hallucinations.
Further Implications
The lawsuit also aims to force OpenAI to focus on benefiting humanity, not just individuals like Altman or corporations like Microsoft. It’s worth noting that Musk’s own AI company, xAI, is a competitor to OpenAI. The Microsoft-OpenAI partnership is currently under investigation by competition regulators in the US, EU, and UK.
This lawsuit adds another layer to an already complex story surrounding OpenAI and its development of increasingly powerful AI models.
- “OpenAI has been transformed into a closed-source de facto subsidiary of Microsoft. Under its new board, it is not just developing but is actually refining an AGI to maximize profits for Microsoft, rather than for the benefit of humanity”
- Elon Musk Sues OpenAI and Sam Altman Elon Musk has initiated legal action against OpenAI, along with its founders Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, and related organizations. He accuses the creators of ChatGPT of violating their initial contractual commitments by focusing on profit-making rather than adhering to the nonprofit’s original goal of advancing AI for the betterment of humanity. The legal complaint, submitted to a San Francisco court late on Thursday, claims that OpenAI, the most valuable AI enterprise globally, transitioned to a profit-oriented approach in commercializing its AGI research subsequent to forming a partnership with Microsoft, the most valuable corporation worldwide, which has contributed approximately $13 billion to the startup.
